I begin by cutting and hammering free form shapes from 22 gage cold rolled steel to create a color relief abstraction. I use various hammers and hammering skills on both sides of the steel which results in a form of repossess. The edges are then filed to a smooth finish. I use a spray technique called sgraffito-grisaille to enhance the hammered relief from utilizing sqraffito, a fine line drawn with a needle like styles, grisaille-black tone effects, along with additional combined spray techniques-directional and granular color applications. Between each color sprayed onto the project, the piece is fired from 1310-1500 degrees depending on the color used. The piece has a limit of 10 firings. Each project takes between 40-200 hours to completion. From start to finish. enamel is a combination of silica sand and enamel clay. This mixture is fired and pulverized to an 80 grit consistency. This product is shipped as a dry powder.
